Jean ROYERE (1902-1981) - Lot 72
Jean ROYERE (1902-1981) Rare suspension lamp, 1959. Four-light, gold-leaf-patinated tubular metal structure forming a double Y surmounted by a hoop, housing four arms bent at right angles at the ends. Special order in this height dated February 1959. H. 59.7 cm; W. 155.5 cm; D. 58 cm. Wear, missing conical lampshades and alterations to the gilding. Provenance : Collection of Mr. and Mrs. S.E, Paris, commissioned directly from Jean Royère. Then by descent. This suspension perfectly sums up what Jean Royère said in an interview with Revue de l'Ameublement in December 1963: "I don't believe I've ever been attached to a school, or adopted any theory, or been dependent on any prior bias. I have no prejudices whatsoever. For me, words like "functional", "style", "contemporary", are meaningless. Let it be successful: I have no other imperative!
