Mathieu TRAN NGUYEN X LA REDOUTE - Lot 7
Mathieu TRAN NGUYEN X LA REDOUTE Console made of three panels of lacquered wood, centered on a suspended shelf. The hinges and suspension posts are made from the original metal, melted, polished and varnished. Dimensions: Height: 90 cm - Length: 128 cm - Width 35 cm. A Paris-based interior architect, Mathieu Tran Nguyen collaborated with renowned figures in architecture and design, such as Philippe Starck and Rodolphe Parente, before founding his own studio in 2019. For "Les Uniques", the designer has totally rethought and transformed a black, wire-structured metal shelf into a minimalist wooden console. A simple filiation remains with the mismatched piece, metamorphosed both in structure and appearance. "La Redoute is a brand I'm familiar with: I grew up in the 1980s with its mail-order catalog. I enjoyed the challenge of creating a unique piece of furniture for a popular heritage brand, while supporting a noble cause," explains the designer. The shelf's original metal, as well as other metal scraps, were melted, polished and varnished in collaboration with an iron craftsman, before being transformed into hinges in the final piece. Mathieu Tran Nguyen then created lacquered wood panels, inspired by the elegant silhouette of a folding screen, which form an unobtrusive canvas on which these fixings express themselves like decorative splinters. "This approach reinvents standardized furniture by sublimating simple materials and revealing their aesthetic potential. Highlighting these technical aspects - the hinges - is also a way of questioning large-scale production methods," he points out. Press Kit - January 2025, Les Uniques, A capsule of solidarity and creativity featuring eight talented designers, La Redoute.
