Follower of Nicolas LANCRET (1690-1743), after Gérard Jean-Baptiste SCOTIN II (1698-ap.1755) The fortunate occasion. Oil on panel. 27 x 37 cm. Gilded wood and plaster frame with rocaille decoration (accidents, small missing parts). This composition was engraved by Scotin II circa 1718-1729 after a lost work by Nicolas Lancret, as a counterpart to Charmes de la conversation (see G. Wildenstein, Lancret, Paris, 1924, no. 275, reproduced fig. 70). The engraving was accompanied by the verses: "A l'ombre de ces bois pour danser à son tour Iris stretches out her lovely hand to her shepherd Tirsis to take advantage of the favorable moment clasps it and declares his love for her....".
