LOUIS-PHILIPPE (1773-1850) - Lot 46
LOUIS-PHILIPPE (1773-1850) L.A.S. (initials), Randan July 28, 1826, to Vicomte de CHANTERAC; 3 pages in-4 (portrait attached). About his children, and the Auvergne estates of Randan and Montpensier. He thanks for the good news of his two children, Nemours, caught up in his studies, and little Montpensier (born in 1824). "The inhabitants of Aigueperse, who came here on a deputation, were very sorry not to find him there. They cherish the name & the memories attached to it, & regret very much the bailiwick of the Duchy of Montpensier, whose jurisdiction was very extensive". All they have left is the forest: "it's charming, & it's the oldest property of our family, since it's been there since the middle of the 14th century without any interruption other than the two confiscations of the Connétable & the revolution. Cardinal de Richelieu had the Château de Montpensier destroyed in hatred of Gaston, but my sister has replaced it with the Château de Randan, which borders the forest. He plans to break through the forest, and his sister has already "made the beautiful road by which we reach Randan. The whole country uses it, & it's so busy that the stones are already crushed. Also, it is a chorus of blessings for the good that this establishment has done to the country". Madame la Dauphine was enchanted with Randan, and the heat didn't stop her "from wandering the park in all directions, with extraordinary courage". They are planning excursions to Vichy, Mont d'Or and Puy de Dôme. "The two little ones (Penthièvre & Aumale), whom the road & especially the dust had made cough, are very well now & no longer cough at all"... Attached is a P.S. April 3, 1833 (1 p. in-fol. partly printed, seal under paper), acknowledging M Santa Colonna as Consul of the Argentine Republic in France.
