A realistic and humorous illustrator, Jean Solé took over from Lob and Gotlib's famous Superdupont, and produced numerous covers for L'Echo des Savanes and Fluide Glacial. A drawing enthusiast, he has also created the famous cover design for the Guide du Routard, as well as numerous film posters...Here, he pays tribute to the Spirou of his childhood, and to the Marcinelle school. All the Belgian magazine's most famous characters are featured: Spirou, of course, but also Gil Jourdan, Gaston, a Smurf, the Marsupilami, Boule, Jerry Spring, Johan and Pirlouit, Choc de Tif et Tondu...accompanied by the name of their illustrator, and a photograph of Solé as a child. Other heroes and authors are mentioned at the bottom of the drawing, as well as Yvan Delporte, the magazine's visionary editor-in-chief from 1956 to 1968. The upper part of the drawing was accompanied by reproductions of Jean Solé's first comic strips, drawn at the age of 12. Sheet accompanied by its tracing paper with layout indications.
