FRANCE, époque Empire ou Restauration - Lot 143
FRANCE, époque Empire ou Restauration Manufacture de Klinghental, Coulaux Frères. Light cavalry officer's saber, AN XI model. Three-pronged gilded brass "à la chasseur" guard with curved quillon, two straight auricles and long-tailed cap. Wooden buttstock sheathed in brown leather, braided copper filigree and brass half-olives. Curved, single-edged blade with rounded back highlighted by two gutters, and two large hollow sides, partially engraved with military trophies, gilded fleurons and foliate scrolls, and signatures, on an antique blued background; the point is counter-edged. With gray patina steel scabbard with two bracelets and two rings. Blade length: 84.7 cm - Total length: 104 cm. Wear, notably to the blade decoration, scratches and a few bumps from use; small loss to the spindle leather; old oxidation, cleaned, on blade and scabbard. The scabbard may have been used, as the cut-outs on the sides of the scabbard are wider than the sword's auricles, and the scabbard does not fit properly.
