JACQUELINE PHILIPPON LECOQ COLLECTION Antoine Philippon and his wife Jacqueline Lecoq brilliantly embody the spirit of logic, clarity and balance that characterized French production in the 50s and 60s. According to Patrick Favardin, "Throughout their brilliant careers, Antoine Philippon and Jacqueline Lecoq remained faithful, against all odds, to a number of ethical and aesthetic principles. The first is a demanding, highly moral approach to their profession, elevated to the rank of priesthood, and as such devoid of any spirit of lucre or profitability. In their highly progressive and democratic vision, formal research is only of value if it contributes to the inner harmony of the living space and the well-being of its users. Secondly, the use of new materials (aluminum, plywood, Formica), of which they made great use, must never give way to gratuitous virtuosity, but stems from a desire for balance, clarity and logical construction. This rigorous, almost pure geometry lends their work a remarkable lightness and distinction, a lively synthesis of international style and French taste, which has found a kind of apogee here". The pieces presented in the catalog confirm this assertion, in which functionality in no way yields to elegance in a perfect fusion. Originally from Philippon Lecoq's villa in Saint Germain en Laye, then moved to Jacqueline Philippon-Lecoq's apartment Philippon-Lecoq's apartment in 2003, these historic pieces of furniture are prototypes or one-offs that have never been produced. Remaining in the couple's possession to this day, and the synthesis of internationally-recognized research, they are now true collector's items, even museum pieces. Romain Coulet
