LOUIS-PHILIPPE (1773-1850) - Lot 135
LOUIS-PHILIPPE (1773-1850) L.A.S. (initials), Randan July 28, 1826, to Viscount de CHANTERAC; 3 pages in-4 (portrait enclosed). About his children, and the Auvergne estates of Randan and Montpensier. He thanks for the good news of his two children, Nemours, taken by his studies, and the little Montpensier (born in 1824). "The inhabitants of Aigueperse who came here on a deputation, were very sorry not to find him there. They are fond of this name and the memories that are attached to it, and they regret very much the bailiwick of the Duchy of Montpensier whose jurisdiction was very extensive. All they have left is the forest: "it is charming, and it is the oldest property of our family, since it has been there since the middle of the 14th century without any other interruption than the two confiscations of the Constable and the revolution. The Cardinal of Richelieu had the castle of Montpensier destroyed in hatred of Gaston, but my sister has replaced it with the one of Randan which touches the forest. He plans to break through the forest, and his sister has already "made the beautiful road by which one arrives at Randan. The whole country uses it, & it is so busy that the stones are already crushed. Also, it is a chorus of blessings for the good that this establishment has done to the country. Madame la Dauphine was enchanted with Randan and the heat did not prevent her "from going through the park in all directions, with extraordinary courage. They are planning excursions to Vichy, the Mont d'Or and the Puy de Dôme. "The two little ones (Penthièvre & Aumale) that the road & especially the dust had made them cough, are very well now & do not cough at all"... Attached is a P.S. April 3, 1833 (1 p. in-fol. partly printed, seal under paper), recognizing M Santa Colonna as Consul of the Argentine Republic in France.
