Alfred DELVAU (1825-1867) - Lot 121
Alfred DELVAU (1825-1867) CARNET autograph, [1865]; oblong notebook in-12 (8 x 13 cm) of 72 leaves, original eggplant basane binding, remnant of metal clasp. Notebook of a trip to Alsace with Alphonse Daudet. Delvau made this trip to Alsace in July 1865 with Alphonse Daudet. These travel notes, mostly in pencil, were used by Delvau for his book Du pont des Arts au pont de Kehl (Reisebilder d'un Parisien) published by Marpon et Flammarion in 1866. Besides the quick notes, some passages are already written, and give a primitive version of the text, crossed out with a stroke of the pen after it has been cleaned up. On one page, we notice the draft title: "From the Pont des Arts to the Pont de Kehl or, as the Germans say, Bergnügungsreise (pleasure trip)". The account goes from July 10 in Strasbourg to July 28 in Kehl, passing through Bussang, Basel, Mülheim, Alt Brisach Sasbach, the Sponeck, the Schlucht Pass...; on Saturday 29, he notes: "5 a.m. Return to Paris". Delvau made a sketch of the banks of the Rhine. Attached is a photograph of Delvau by Carjet (business card size), annotated on the back by Julia Daudet.
