Alphonse DAUDET (1840-1897) - Lot 30
Alphonse DAUDET (1840-1897) 12 L.A.S., 1855-[1883] and n.d., to his parents; 25 pages in-8 or in-12 (soiling to the 1st). Beautiful correspondence to his father and mother. The first letter is written from Lyon, on August 14, 1855, at the age of fifteen; he is about to finish his classes and has to start preparing his exams "to be received with honor. I was destined for the navy, but my eyesight is poor and I cannot be admitted among the defenders of the fatherland; my goodness! France does not lose much, and I think I gain a lot"... Etc. Later, he gives news of his sister Anna's young household, of his household and of Bébé (Léon), of his travels and excursions, speaks of his work; he announces the publication of Numa Roumestan; he tells of his stay and his cure at Néris, where he awaits the Zolas... The last letters were written to his mother, after the death of Vincent Daudet (1875), evoking the life in Champrosay, and his "cruel state of nerves"...
