History : François Delsarte (Solesmes, 1811-Paris, 1871), singer and pedagogue and theorist of the French movement. At the heart of his work are the relationships between gesture and music, the actor and the spectator, the rhythmic language of the body. He reinvented ways of moving on stage and transmitting emotions through song and dance. His innovative approach inspired 20th century silent film and theater directors, American modern dance companies, and even movements such as Dress Reform to lighten women's heavy costumes. His vision was based on the idea of a trinity whose three components in the physical man were life, soul and spirit. Applied to the body, this trinity gave the limbs the expression of life, the torso symbolized the soul, and the head the spirit. His teachings played a fundamental role in the European performing arts as well as in the United States. He sang before Emperor Napoleon III in March 1850. Mr. Maxime CHARRON presents this lot.
