"The Mountains of Dj'erf-el-Achard or the life of a young soldier in Africa. Details of different towns in France and distance from one place to another, the names of the different bivouacs". Handwritten diary of a veteran of the 58th Line Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 5th Company. The author was born on July 24, 1820 in Genoa and drew on March 22, 1841. His diary begins on March 22, 1841 and appears to end on August 15, 1844, at Ben Siam, Algeria (last p.). Sewn notebook of 90 folios, in-12, with cardboard covers, the first bearing the number of his line regiment: 58. Facing title page pencil drawing of a sailboat; on the reverse of the 4th cover color drawing of a Zouave and a native. With certificate stating that said MENON has no venereal disease. Wear, stains and tears; binding worn.
