Nicu ENEA (1897-1960) - Lot 117
Nicu ENEA (1897-1960) Nude sitting, 1925. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated lower right. 112 x 63 cm. Lining. Enea Nicu was born in 1897 in a peasant family from the Bacau region of Romania. He began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in the class of Georges Demestrescu Mirea and finished it at the Free Academy of Painting in Bucharest. A prolific painter, his work is marked by a discreet sentimentalism and a neo-Byzantine aesthetic. His rather calm palette highlights a precise and evocative drawing. His favorite themes generally praise the image of his country and national ideas, which allows him to be noticed by the royal house that hires him to contribute to the decoration of the Royal Palace (1935-1936) and to be associated with the restoration of the Church of St. Voyavodes in Bacău (1939) and the Cathedral of Chishinau (1942 - 1943). During this period many exhibitions were devoted to him in Bucharest, but also in Belgrade and Zagreb. Two of his paintings were offered to the Indonesian President, Soekarno in 1960, the year of his death.
