Small pocket watch, with cock, in yellow gold (750). Cover decorated with a cylindrical medallion, in opaque and translucent enamels of Venus dancing with a putto, on a wavy radiating guilloché background. Surrounded by a line of dots on a background of opaque white enamel. The case and bezel en suite, without enamel. White enamel dial, indexes with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic, with railway, for the minutes in black. Mechanical movement with fusee and chain, and spiral. Plate signed "F. MELLY in Paris" and numbered 715. Case back with the initials of the silversmith [SDB] and hallmark [with three chevrons]. End of the 18th century. Gross weight : 52,9 g. - Diameter: 40.5 mm. Modification of the case with old winding by the rod of the hoop, soldered. Wear and tear to the enamels; hair, cracks and chips to the dial and keyhole; scratches from use. There were many watchmakers, both in Geneva and Paris, with the name MELLY, throughout the 18th century. And towards the end of the century the MELLY brothers are known for their activity in both cities, until the 1830s.
