D'après Pierre GOUTHIÈRE - Lot 51
D'après Pierre GOUTHIÈRE Pair of chased and gilded bronze incense burners in the form of cassolettes. The tripod base with amounts decorated with heads of satyrs, crowned with pampers, and ended by feet of goat, enclosing a snake and supporting a hard stone basin (jasper?) plated with malachite. The circular base plated in suite and decorated with a flower. Louis XVI style. H. : 35 cm. Some defects in the cast iron and small wear to the gilding. Some scratches, small cracks and defects to the basins and their veneer, and old fillings. This pair of cassolettes brûle-parfums is based on the one made by Pierre Gouthière (1732-1813) (mount), François-Joseph Belanger (1744-1818) (design) and Augustin Bocciardi (c. 1729-1797) (jasper cut), now in the Wallace Collection, London [Inv. F292], with some variations, notably the absence of grape garlands, and the shape and material of the basins.
