ORMESSON Wladimir d' (1888-1973) diplomate et écrivain [AF 1 - Lot 176
ORMESSON Wladimir d' (1888-1973) diplomate et écrivain [AF 1956, 13e f]. 32 L.A.S. "Wladi", 4 L.S. and 1 P.A., 1946-1972, to Pierre LYAUTEY; 72 pages of various sizes, on the letterhead of the French Embassy in Argentina, the French Ambassador to the Holy See or RTF. Friendly correspondence largely devoted to the affairs of the French Academy. He tells of a planned trip to Patagonia, Chile and Tierra del Fuego... He evokes his programs of conferences in Argentina; he wishes to make Lyautey come (December 24, 1946)... On his return from Buenos Aires, he spoke of his projects and admitted to feeling a certain disarray. He also evokes the political situation in Argentina: Peron, the socialists, the daredevil that the embassy represents (October 9, 1947)... An important set of 1957-1959 speaks at length about the academic candidacy of Lyautey: the way to go about it; his chances for the chairs of Herriot, Farrère, Chevrillon, Lecomte; the other candidates (A. Marie, P. Morand, J. Rostand, La Varende, Troyat, Riou); echoes of Daniel-Rops, Genevoix, Lacretelle, Mondor, Juin, Bérard, Maurois, François Poncet, André Chamson, Maurice Garçon, Jules Romains, etc. The possible candidacy of the Count of Paris for the chair of Weygand made some people scream... He mentions several times his difficulties to have Lyautey's writings published in Le Figaro... Elsewhere he speaks of his family, of the renting of the Château d'Ormesson to the Sultan, of the articles they exchange and the works in which they participate, the meetings of the O.R.T.F. council, etc. Plus a l.a.s. from J. FOUQUES-DUPARC and a visiting card a.s. from Jean d'Ormesson, to the same. Attached is the autograph MANUSCRIT signed "Wladimir d'Ormesson" of an article on the election of Pope JOHN XXIII on October 28, 1958 (4 p. in-4); 3 L.A.S. or cards to François de Flers; one L.A.S., Ormesson-sur-Marne June 2, 1957, to Maurice Bourdel, on his reception at the Académie française.
