GRESSET Jean-Baptiste-Louis (1709-1777) poète et auteur dramatique [AF 1748, 5e f].
6 autograph MANUSCRITS; 14 pages in-4 or in-8 (portrait attached). Drafts of poems. Drafts, often very erased and corrected. Stances to a friend whom I was to visit in late autumn: "Winter no longer covers our countryside with ice" Saint Paul to Philemon, epistle (4 pages in-8), edited with some corrections, of which we quote the beginning: "Chained to the God on whom I rest In these glorious irons whose cause I adore Of my apostolate too honorable price ". The drafts, sometimes fragmentary, include other epistles, and epigrams, most of them in octosyllables. Two L.A.S. "Gresset" are attached. September 17, 1754, to Monseigneur (3 p. in-4), request to the "born protector of talents and arts as much by your taste and your lumieres as by the rank where the justice of the King placed you", to keep a farm in Brittany. Friday morning, to Mme de GRAFFIGNY (1 p. in-12, address), as "a poor nurse who has not been able to leave for a few days a friend who is very dear to him".
