L.A.S. "DuBos", Paris May 7, 1730, to M. de LA VISCLÈDE, perpetual secretary of the Academy in Marseille; 2 pages in-4, address with remainder of red wax seal (edges reinforced).
On the protocol uses of the Academy.
The French Academy never goes in body "to make compliments to the Princes nor to the Princesses of the blood", but the Company "believes that its usage does not decide anything on the conduct that the Academy of Marseilles must tend to in the case that Madame the Princess of CONTI passes by Marseilles. As your Protector, if he were on the spot, would go to pay him his duties, we believe that you can go to pay him yours. The French Academy will only compliment the King, the Queen and the children of France, the Chancellor or the Keeper of the Seals in a body, that is to say with the director and the two other officers on his head.
