SAND George (1804-1876). - Lot 212
SAND George (1804-1876). L.A.S. "George Sand", [Nohant January 7, 1855], to Charles JACQUE; 4 pages in-8 in blue ink. To the animal painter, who sent her some chickens for the Nohant barnyard. "They arrived this evening alive and well, and I cannot describe to you the scene of astonishment and admiration of the whole family, animals and others, at the sight of these superb animals. When all this would not give eggs or chickens, it is so beautiful to see that we would still pay it with pleasure. The company was immediately installed in its home and all the valetaille, unworthy of dealing with such lordship, were put to fertilize. Your instructions will be posted on all the doors of the establishment, and I will have the pleasure of seeing to it, for this world is worth the effort". She warmly thanks Jacque for this letter. "I like the chickens you send; I like even better the ones you make, but I would like even better to see you in Nohant to put your nose in our family, because I am sure that you would find yourself there, and that once you have come, you would come back"... Her son Maurice and Manceau "were like children in front of the opening of this basket full of wonders, and all these great airs of proud prisoners who raised their egrets while looking at us sideways" .... Correspondence, t. XIII, n° 6538 (corrected text: Letters of a life, Folio, n° 221).
