2 autographed MUSICAL MANUSCRIPTS signed "Charles Gounod", Délivrance and Prière Que ta volonté soit faite (Thy will be done), 1874; 25 and 26 pages in-fol. (34 x 27 cm) plus titles, all in a period hardback binding of plum chagrined paper, brown cloth spine, autograph title label on upper board. Orchestral scores of these two pieces, brief cantatas related to his "deliverance" from the clutches of Georgina Weldon. This collection, partly reconstructed from memory on his return to France, when Gounod learned that Georgina Weldon was sequestering his manuscripts, opens with the "Prière" Que ta Volonté soit faite, [CG 461; Condé pp. 737-738] for soloist, choir and orchestra " and organ (ad libitum) ", " words and music by Charles Gounod ", with the mention " Reorchestrated in July 1874 "; in D major it begins Andantino : " Mon Dieu, Seigneur et Père, exauce-moi dans ta bonté " .... This is followed by Délivrance, " Hymn of thanksgiving for Tenor or Soprano solo, choir and orchestra. Words and music by Charles Gounod": "The Lord has spoken? by dazzling miracles"...; the title page also bears this note: "Begun on the 23rd of October, feast of the Holy Redeemer; finished on the 25th of October, feast of the Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary ) Anno Domini 1874. "Eduxi te de terra Ægypti" (Exod. XXII, 33. Deut. V, 6. I Reg. X, 18. Jerem. (passim). Dan. IX, 15. Mic. VI, 4. Hebr. VIII, 9. "In exitu Israël de Ægypto, domus Jacob de populo barbaro" (Psalm. CXIII, 1) ". Both manuscripts are carefully notated in black ink on Lard-Esnault paper with 26 staves. Attached is the autograph manuscript of Thy will be done, a Prayer : " My God and father while I stay "..., first version in English of the Prayer, on a poem by Charlotte Elliot, paraphrase of the prayer of Jesus on the Mount of Olives Orchestral score: flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns in F and D, trumpets, timpani, harps, strings and organ (title and 25 pages in-fol. ink stamp Georgina Weldon for the Orphanage on the title). The two versions have some differences.
