J & W RICHARDS, London. Beautiful bronze flintlock four-shot naval officer's pistol. Four round barrels, with stripes in star, numbered (4 - 5 - 6 -7). Caliber 10 mm. Chest signed on a background of crossed flags and located on a background of flowers. Proof [GP] and quality [V] marks crowned with LONDON. Cylinders turning at the bottom of the batteries for the lower barrels, with lateral key. The right side of the barrel is covered with a pull tab for the right battery of the right upper barrel. The first shot from the left upper barrel. Safety blade behind the hammer blocking hammer and pan cover. Polished brown walnut or mahogany (?) stock with polished steel medallion in thumb piece. Silver (925) cap with iron clip for mobile ring (missing). Hallmarked with a passing Lion, probably BIRMINGHAM anchor, letter date [O] for 1786 -1787 or 1812-1813. Iron trigger guard engraved with a flower in a rhombus. Barrel length: 10.5 cm - Total length: 27 cm - Gross weight: 1.051 g. Some small scratches; small shocks and small chip to the stock; shocks to the cap. Joseph & William RICHARDS, harquebusiers having a manufacture of weapons in Birmingham between 1785 and 1817, suppliers of the British army and of civils. They are listed as having a shop in London, at 16 Staining Lane, circa 1808-1810.
