Exceptional model of the Eiffel Tower. Universal Exhibition of 1889. In cut-out wood, openwork, stained and gilded. Leaded tricolour flags and wallpaper animating the platforms. Dummy clock face printed on paper maroufléed on removable panel inscribed between the arch of the base and the first platform. The tower presented on a square base under a quadrangular glass and black lacquered wood showcase. Tower: 97 cm. Showcase: 113 cm. Base: 51 x 50,5 cm. Misses, cracks and small accidents. Attached: A fan, the silk-screened canvas sheet presenting a cavalier view of the Champ de Mars, taken from the right bank, with the Eiffel Tower in the foreground. Flowering branches and birds frame the composition. Gilded wooden frame with silvered Eiffel Towers embossed on top of the date 1889. Wear and stains. Provenance: Mme Le Grain Eiffel, wife of Gustave Eiffel's grandson. Private collection. This type of model was offered to visitors to the World's Fair who were discovering the Eiffel Tower.
