Silver chalice (min. 800) partly gilded. Hexagonal... - Lot 110 - Drouot Estimations
Silver chalice (min. 800) partly gilded. Hexagonal shaft with bulbous knot in the middle decorated with long leaves, in repoussé, forming flowers and six rhombic cabochons with translucent green enamels on an engraved radiant background. Slightly flared bowl Hexagonal foot in the form of a star with curved sides, on a mantle underlined by a frieze of pearls, with one of the points engraved with a cross. Fixations by pins. Without apparent punches. Middle of the 15th century. Handwritten inscription on the point, later, engraved on the shaft, above the base: "CLANS". H.: 20.1 cm - Gross weight: 229 g. Cup reattached by welding to the top of the shaft, on the scalloped flared part; inside probably redecorated. Wear, scratches and shocks; two incipient cracks at the edge of the cup; some restorations, notably at the cup; important missing enamel. This chalice is to be compared with a copy of a master from Dijon, with an octagonal base, kept in a private collection (see Les orfèvres de Bourgogne, Cahiers du Patrimoine (n° 52), Ed. du Patrimoine, 1999, p. 349, 4.).
