A Pair of large CANDELABRES In finely chased... - Lot 127 - Drouot Estimations
A Pair of large CANDELABRES In finely chased and gilded bronze, the bouquets of eight lights carried by winged mermaids. Medallion bases of Wedgwood type and white marble plates. Some bronzes stamped "Gra[ndes] syrenes". Louis XVI style, 19th century. After François RÉMOND (1747-1812). Attributed to Alfred BEURDELEY (1808-1882). H. Height : 67,5 cm. - L. : 32 cm. This model of candelabra is inspired by the andirons of François Rémond, made around 1780 (see Ottomeyer, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 279, fig. 4.12.3). The same pair of candelabras as ours, in the Louis XVI style, is found in a set whose clock is signed by Beurdeley (no. 85 in the Beaussant Lefèvre sale of Thursday 14 November 2019). Their similarity is perfect, which implies the use of the same mold. The candelabras of other bronze makers differ, such as Dasson (see Ottomeyer, Vergoldete Bronzen, n° 6.3.16 p. 426).
