Autograph MANUSCRIPTS of the GRAND DAUPHIN, with autograph CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS by BOSSUET; 20 pages in-4 (9 Latin leaves in bad condition with wet spots, small lacks and the bottom of the pages eaten away; one leaf in French in good condition). Grand Dauphin history homework assignments corrected by Bossuet. Bossuet was the tutor of the Grand Dauphin from 1671 to 1680, and wrote for him his Discourse on Universal History. The leaflet in French, very corrected, relates to the treaty of Bretigny in 1360 between John II the Good and Edward III of England; Bossuet makes this addition: "Here is what was concluded at Bretigny near Chartres. Some time later the Kings themselves swore the peace" .... The pages in Latin, abundantly corrected by Bossuet, concern the history of Philip IV the Fair, his conquest of Flanders, and his conflict with Pope Boniface VIII. The last page is entirely in Bossuet's hand: "Hoc fere tempore dissidium inter Bonifacium VIII et Philipum pulcrum"... An L.A.S. by Claude FLEURY (1640-1723, abbot, tutor of the Enfants de France and confessor of the young Louis XV; writer and historian), Paris 15 October 1684, is attached to BOSSUET (2 pages petit in-4). On the death of Géraud de Cordemoy (1620-1684), ordinary reader of Le Dauphin, and the continuation of his Histoire de France. He deplores the death of their friend: "it pleased God to strike again this terrible blow [...] there is no question of lamenting it is necessary to think of the vivans & to take care of the poor family of our amy. ...] perhaps it would not be impossible to keep the office or the pension for the son ... & to commit him to continue the story ...". Etc. Plus a P.A.S. on vellum, receipt of his appointment as sub-preceptor of the Dukes of Burgundy, Anjou and Berry, 1st quarter 1700.
