MAGRITTE René (1898-1967)
Fragment of an autograph letter signed with original drawing. S.l., circa 1947, 1 page in-4 in blue ink on squared paper. Important letter fragment related to his famous painting The Liberator, illustrated with an original drawing, a true sketch of what will become one of Magritte's most famous paintings. In this letter, Magritte notes: "manner: (the first therapist seems weak next to this new one, this time called "The Liberator") This painting is painted in sober colors, with brutal shadows so as to give the objects represented the greatest density". Magritte specifies for his drawing: "hand holding a "Sheherazade" and "sky composed of blue triumphal arches and clouds on a black background". The painting was probably made in 1947 from this drawing. It can be seen at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
