GANCE ABEL (1889-1981)
Set of 300 signed autograph letters addressed to Nelly KAPLAN 1954-1979, in red, blue, and more rarely in pencil, in various formats often in-4. Important autograph correspondence addressed to Nelly Kaplan. There are also postcards dedicated to Nelly Kaplan as well as many love notes, always signed Abel Gance. Passionate and amorous correspondence, Abel Gance's jealousy and depressive states are present in the letters. Abel Gance is dazzled by the beauty of Nelly Kaplan, and is destabilized by her personality, he sends her a questionnaire to better understand her and to get out of her spell: "Help me to find myself". Erotic passages are often present in Abel Gance's letters. He also talks about his film projects, notably polyvision, a close marriage of "visual harmonics and music". The images must obey the same occult rhythm as the music or vice versa. It was in 1954, during a reception in homage to Georges Mélies that Henri Langlois, director of the Cinémathèque, introduced Nelly Kaplan to Abel Gance, whose assistant she would become. At his side, she became passionate about polyvision. In 1959-1960, under the pseudonym Belen, she publishes limited edition booklets: "La Géométrie dans les spasmes", "Délivrez nous du mâle", "Le Réservoir des sens". Her first short film is dedicated to the painter Gustave Moreau and she directs the brilliant film: "La Fiancée du pirate". Remarkable love and artistic correspondence.
