BRETON Frères, Paris, rue Dauphine 23 Optical bench on rectangular box, with one drawer, in solid mahogany, moulded and veneered on all sides, resting on four adjustable bronze spinning top legs. The top is centered on the oval cartridge of the manufacturer. With a graduated ruler and accessories (various supports for lenses, mirrors, prisms, screens...), pivoting or articulated, in brass or copper, some blackened, and some coloured or colourless mica or glass panes, some frosted, and their supports in cork. Second Empire period, and later for some accessories. Box: Height: 18,3 cm - Length: 73,5 cm - Depth: 22,8 cm. Total length (with ruler): 102 cm. - Total height (with ruler, without accessories): 24 cm. Spots, cracks and splinters on the case, manufacturer's veiled cartridge, to be refixed; missing ruler support pins. Some instruments incomplete, oxidized, scratched, in use, some screws missing. The optical bench is composed of a light source and a long graduated rail (or ruler) designed to support various mobile, adjustable, removable and interchangeable accessories. These accessories must be aligned and can be moved or rotated in order to observe and verify many experiments. Other independent accessories may be placed on either side of the ruler to complement the experiments as required.
