JAPON, époque Meiji (1868-1912) Man laughing at the lantern, holding a flaming torch. Bronze okimono with two-tone brown patinas and gold highlights, with incised clothing decorations. Signed MIYAO TSUKURU (宮 尾 造) in gold on the lantern. Rectangular quadripod base in brown wood with gilded lacquered decoration of scrolls and flowers. Subject height: 16 cm. Brandon to be refixed. Some slits in the base. The company MIYAO EISUKE, from Yokohama, was one of the most prolific workshops of the Meiji period, producing fine quality bronzes with a brown patina and with some details enhanced with gilding.
