César FRANCK (1822-1890) - Lot 18
César FRANCK (1822-1890) Alfred CORTOT (1877-1962) Corrected proof of the transcription for two pianos of Franck's Sonata for violin and piano. 57 pages in-fol. (35 x 25 cm), in sheets, fragile paper, frayed edges with gaps in the margins. Printed proof with annotations and corrections by CORTOT's hand, in ink or blue pencil, marked on the cover: "last proof. Good to print after correct [ions]". Alfred CORTOT admired this sonata, which he often played and recorded with Jacques Thibaud. He made an arrangement for solo piano, and this arrangement for two pianos, published by Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig. It was given to Georges Franck, son of the composer. We enclose: Eros and Psyche, fragment of Psyche, transcription for two pianos by Paul BRAUD (Bornemann 1904), with a copy sent by Paul Braud to Miss Thérèse César Franck, and this note: "Finished on October 15, 1890 and performed for the first time before César Franck on October 30, 1890, this transcription is the last piece the author of Psyche heard" (tears, defects, lacks, sticky paper).
