SERVIEN Abel (1593-1659) diplomat and minister. L.A.S.... - Lot 195 - Drouot Estimations
SERVIEN Abel (1593-1659) diplomat and minister. L.A.S. "Servien", Münster December 5, 1645, to Monseigneur [Cardinal MAZARIN]; 1 page folio, address with remnants of a red wax seal. Beautiful letter protesting his devotion to Mazarin, while he is negotiating the treaty of Westphalia. "It would be very difficult for me to find words to express to Your Eminence my resentment of the obliging testimonies of benevolence and kindness which he is pleased to continually honour, nor of the passion which I have to make myself worthy by a faithful obeisance to all his comments. I will content myself with assuring Your Eminence that I could never have a creature more attached to all his interests or more dependent on all his wishes. As the honor of his good graces is the only good that I wish in whatever condition I find myself, I will live very happily provided that I am favored by it and that VE is only pleased to consider me as the man of France who is most passionately and truly Monseigneur de VE's most humble, most obedient and most obliging servant.
