Ambassador in Turkey, he wishes to leave, after sixteen years of presence, and to be "free of my galley"; he wrote to the count of CHOISEUL; he supposes that the marshal wants "to make himself bearer of the reforms of the ordinance of the Levant; in the meantime the trade suffers from the freedom of the foreigners"... He adds that the Empress of Russia gave him a gift of her portrait in a superb snuffbox and that his wife received furs, "it is to finish on the good mouth"... January 17, 1789, thanking a cousin who complimented him for his entry in the Council of the King... October 31, 1789, he sent to the provosts of the merchants and aldermen of Lyon a decree of the National Assembly which postponed any convocation of provinces and states. Geneva, September 17, 1810, he evokes an affair concerning M. de Saint-Victor and the duke of Cadore.
