DURAND-RUEL PAUL (1831-1922)
11 signed autograph letters addressed to Claude MONET June-August 1885, 27 pages in-8 in ink. Correspondence relating to the work of Claude Monet, but also to the money problems encountered by Monet and Durand-Ruel. July 17, 1885: "[...] He is going to beat the bass drum there as we are going to do it everywhere. It is absolutely necessary to stir things up in order to attract public attention, demand big prices and make people believe in big business. We are definitely going to become charlatans because we have to. It is only by putting ourselves on the same level as others that we will be understood. When you are modest, you look like an idiot".
