Charles-Valentin ALKAN (1813–1888) Autograph letter, Sunday evening, to a lady; 1 page, in-8, with his initials. “Alas! Dear Madam, I may be a little younger than my years at the piano, but I am certainly older than my years when I take up the pen. I thought I could combine my brother’s work with my own, but I have realized in recent days that this was pure vanity on my part. I am giving up my concerts for this year, not without regret, I confess, for I have a weakness for still enjoying playing. It will be for next year, God willing”… Rare.
