Prince Paul Petrovich TROUBETZKOY (1866-1938) Portrait of Anatole France (1844-1924), circa 1907. Sculpture in plaster, unsigned. H. 48.5 cm. Historical background: According to information provided by R. Giolli, Troubetzkoy executed the portrait of Anatole France during his first stay in Paris, between his return to Russia and his first trips to America (1905-1910). The bronze work is reproduced in the catalog of the artist's 1911 New York exhibition under the title "Anatole France". Related works : An example in plaster with a green patina is in the collections of the Petit Palais, Paris (inv. PPS1722). A bronze example is in the Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow. Bibliography : -Cat.
