Onion striking watch.
Plain silver case (min. 800), back engraved with concentric circles, gilded brass inner gallery with openwork frieze of foliate scrolls, punctuated with birds.
White enameled dial, black painted hour markers, with Roman numerals for the hours and dot scale for the minutes.
Fusee and chain movement. Signed plate with cock. Egyptian pillars. Spring cylinder engraved with a quartefoil frieze on a grained background.
Metal stamp marked in ink "1 ounce 6 grins".
Gross weight: 216.4 g. - Diameter: 58 mm.
Small crack at the edge of the dial (5 o'clock) and chips at the keyways; small missing spring cylinder; striking spring not holding reassembled; scratches and small knocks.
A metal watch chain and two keys are included.
Chain length: 29 cm.
The maker is probably Guillaume VITROLLES fils, received
Master Watchmaker in Paris in 1707, established rue des Cultures Saint
Catherine.
