FRANCE or SWITZERLAND, 19th century Rectangular snuffbox (composite) with rounded corners. The body of the box in (585) yellow and rose gold with chased decoration, on the sides and bottom, of reserves with wavy bands in frieze frames of foliate scrolls and flowers or leaves or fillets; the uprights adorned with quatrefoils. First quarter of the 19th century. Lid, hinged, enriched with a rectangular enameled porcelain plate depicting two women holding cages, a bird hesitating to enter one, in a landscape, with a chased relief frame of three-tone gold (585) floral scrolls on a grained background. Rose (585) gold interior. Mid-nineteenth century. No visible hallmarks. Gross weight: 127.7 g. - 20 x 90 x 60 mm. Scratches to the porcelain plate; a few knocks, notably to the rabbet; partially split frame; a few small reinforcing welds, notably at the edges of the lid and frame.
