Attribuée à Cornelis VAN POELENBURGH (Utrecht 1594/95-1667) - Lot 36
Attribuée à Cornelis VAN POELENBURGH (Utrecht 1594/95-1667) Italian landscape with ancient ruins and the repose of the holy family served by angels during the return from Egypt. Oil on panel. Two horizontal boards Parquetage (junction trace in the upper part). Monogram, probably later or repeated, on the base of the C (or G) W column. 27 x 30 cm. Wooden frame and gilded stucco decorated with palmettes (wear and accidents). On the reverse of the frame, an inscription in black pencil Stela. Provenance: France, private collection (Attributed to Cornelis Poelenburg) To be compared with compositions by Cornelis van Poelenburg influenced by his stay in Italy, in Rome and then Florence (1622 - 1625), in which the theme of Resting during the Flight to Egypt appears on several occasions in Italian landscapes (Cf. 1 - Ancienne collection du Duc de Choiseul (1719 - 1790), Sotheby's London, July 6, 2006, no. 180 - 2 - Ancienne collection James Irvine, Sotheby's London March 28, 2017, no. 51). The monogram could refer to Goffredo Wals (15956 - 1638).
