ZUBER & Compagnie - Lot 28
ZUBER & Compagnie Part of the Hindustan panorama. 6 strips of polychrome wallpaper printed on the second scene plate (#13 to 8). 1980s edition, with lower part in reserve marked "Hindoustan", "Zuber & Cie", "Made in France" and number of each plate. These numbers also transferred to the back. In rolls. Length approx. 390 x 70 cm - Total width approx. 400 cm. A few stains, notably from the transfer of plates; a few breaks and folds, especially at the bottom of some plates; tiny tears at some edges. The "L'Hindoustan" panoramic set was created in 1807 by the Zuber & Compagnie factory, based on drawings by Pierre-Antoine Mongin, inspired by engravings of travel accounts published in England and France in the late 18th century, notably by Dianell and Hodges. The 1,265 original carved wood plates, in 85 colors, are still used for modern prints. Illustration image to avoid damaging the strips when unrolling them.
