Attribué à VAN BLARENBERGHE Louis-Nicolas ou Henri Désiré (Lille 1716-Fontainebleau 1794) et (Lille 1734-Paris 1812) - Cavalry battle on the banks of a river running alongside the walls of a fortified town. Boats, some with sails, glide along the water, while villagers and carts move along the bank below the fighting. Miniature adorning the lid of a rectangular box in brown sea turtle (Chelonioidea spp) shell (pre-Convention) and molded yellow gold (840/ min. 750) mount. Goldsmith's hallmark, incomplete: Adrien-Jean- Maximilien VACHETTE (1779-1839). PARIS, 1798-1809. Repoinçonnée à la tête d'aigle. Gross weight: 81.5 g. - Box: 2.1 x 7.5 x 5.4 cm - Miniature: 4.2 x 6.5 cm. Miniature: 4.2 x 6.5 cm (when viewed). The miniature is slightly missing in the lower right-hand corner. A few scratches and cracks to the tortoiseshell; box bottom to be partially refixed; lid formerly refixed with traces of glue. Provenance: Eve, 17/6/2008, lot 202.
