ECOSSE, Glasgow, Peter HENDERSON - Lot 104
ECOSSE, Glasgow, Peter HENDERSON Dagger (Sgian Dubh), with its small cover, held by a chain. Ebony spindles carved in a studded weaving style, the one of the dagger carved with a thistle on the reverse. Knobs decorated with important "Cairngorms stone", or yellow or orange citrines, round faceted, in claw setting on galleries with scrolls and chimeric snakes. Single-edged blade, with two grooves and two gutters, and a notched back, signed "Peter HENDERSON, Maker, Glasgow". Black morocco scabbard on wooden cores, with silver fittings (925 / min. 800) with Celtic decorations. Passing to the reverse. Goldsmith's mark [P.H.]. Hallmarks to the Lion passant and GLASGOW for 1927 [e]. Blade length : 27.5 cm - Total height : 43.5 cm - Total gross weight : 716 g. Some oxidation on the blade, making it very difficult to remove the dagger from its scabbard; some scratches and shocks, notably on the fittings and the spindles.
