CHINE - XIXème siècle
Set including Liu Hai standing with his celadon nephrite toad and a ceremonial axe carved with taotie masks, yin and yang and topped with a chilong. H. 6 and 7.2 cm. Provenance: Joseph Buisson Collection, Engineer of the Mines of Saint Etienne, acquired during a study trip to China in the 1920s. Joseph Buisson participated in a scientific expedition led by the State to survey the possibilities of concession and exploitation of deposits in China and Japan. In the 1930s, he then managed the coal mining concession in Zongouldak, Turkey.
