CHOISY François-Timoléon, abbé de (1644-1724)... - Lot 28 - Drouot Estimations
CHOISY François-Timoléon, abbé de (1644-1724) priest, missionary and traveler, historian, memorialist and famous transvestite. 2 L.A.S. "L'abbé de Choisy", Paris 1696-1701; 2 pages in-4 each. Very rare letters about his affairs. March 5, 1696. On the subject of repairs at Saint-Lô (he had been prior of Saint-Lô de Rouen since 1675): "I have spared nothing in the last twenty years to maintain the place in the best possible condition and I will show you by the accounts of my collector that I have spent more than twelve or fifteen thousand francs, but in truth there is no way to give back youth to those who no longer have it and old houses will always be old. I will go myself at Easter to visit them and see all that can be done without rebuilding them" - November 21, 1701. He asks Father Brice to tell "all the steps I have taken to get rid of the house of the beautiful spine, I wanted to lose a lot", and he has made "all the necessary repairs". He does not despair of seeing M. de Bellefontaine finish this affair to get out of it "to my honor", and he will go in the spring to give order. "I have at present on my hands a lot of big affairs to give myself entirely to them, we are fighting to see who will get Baleroy, it is a sign that I have not made a bad deal. Two P.A.S. from Jean DOUJAT are attached, receipts as "Historiographer of the King to write the History of His Majesty in Latin" (1655), and as "former Doctor Regent of the Faculty of civil and canon law in the University of Paris" (1681-16682).
