Two round miniatures : - Portrait of a woman in bust with blue cap and ribbon. Watercolor and gouache. Signed DAMBRIN and dated 1807 on the right. Diameter : 6 cm. Square frame with circular view in blackened wood. - Portrait of a man in blue uniform (?) with orange collar. Watercolor and gouache. Diameter : 8 cm. Wear on the background, restored. Circular frame in blackened wood (damaged, glued back and missing). P.M. DAMBRIN or DANBRIN, painter in miniature active around 1795-1820 in Europe. According to Madame Lemoine-Bouchard, this artist was itinerant for part of his career before settling in Paris. He is reported to have lived in Middlebourg in the Netherlands, where he painted the portrait of Paulus de Wind, engraved in 1798 in Amsterdam by Reinier Vinkeles [in the Rijskmuseum, Amsterdam]. He lived in Paris in 1817 at 14 rue des Moulins, and in 1820 at 98 rue et île St Louis.
