BEAUVAIS
Tapestry of the hanging of the sea ports in wool and polychrome silk. Decor of birds and shellfish in the foreground, a port in the background. Louis XIV period, late 17th - early 18th century. 290 x 250 cm. Accidents and reweaving. Wear and stains. This tapestry is part of the "Ports de mer" hanging, whose animal theme draws its inspiration from the Menagerie of Versailles. It was one of the few to have been acquired by the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne from the Manufacture de Beauvais, for Louis XIV at Marly. A hanging was supplied to the Royal Court of Sweden in 1695.
