MANUSCRIT autograph signed "René Barjavel", Passage du Malin (Madeleine), [December 1947]; 9 pages in-4 with erasures and corrections. Dramatic chronicle on the play by François MAURIAC. Article for Carrefour, with numerous erasures and corrections, having been used for the printing, with typographers' marks. [Passage du Malin was created at the theater of La Madeleine on December 12, 1947, in a staging by Jean Meyer, with Marie Bell and André Brulé in the main roles. The reception of the critics was very negative] Barjavel draws up here a virulent criticism of the play. Mauriac's hell is "a swamp where the waste water of families comes to deposit soft stratifications. The characters of M. Mauriac know only one sin, that of the flesh. The Satan who frightens them brandishes a bed sheet as his standard. [...] Passage du Malin presents us with a complete sample of these bizarre beings [...]. The spectator, almost always embarrassed and often dismayed, watches with amazement these ghosts agitating, tearing, sniffing, sobbing, grumbling with pleasure and abomination [...] This Passage of the Evil One will undoubtedly be only a furtive stroll, the Western civilization will not continue less, spreading around it other perfumes than this smell of dormitory which emanates from the stage of the theater of the Madeleine and suffocates the average spectator balanced"...
