MAURRAS Charles (1868-1952) [AF 1938, 16e f].
AUTOGRAPHIC MANUSCRITE, [To Members of Parliament, 1929]; 7 pages small in-4 (press clipping attached).

Column published in L'Action française of November 1, 1929. Violent diatribe against the foreign policy of André TARDIEU, with regard to Germany, Maurras also attacks BRIAND and DOUMERGUE. "Tardieu very foolishly believed that he could answer for the security of Europe by encircling Germany with states of lesser strength [] Tardieu did not make peace, he prolonged the war. Only he was taking against it these guarantees which were called defenses". Even Briand and Doumergue, faced with the power of Germany, noted that these defenses no longer held up "Obviously, Mr. Briand and Mr. Doumergue reasoned like doddering fools," but Tardieu "young and dashing, could not ignore the mischief he was committing," especially since he had begun his career in foreign policy: he lied, he concealed, to serve his ambitions. Thus he hides the success in Germany of the nationalist plebiscite: "I recommend him not to exaggerate the crime of excess. He could well have to bite his fingers off".

We join a L.A.S. to the cardinal Alfred BAUDRILLART, Martigues February 4; more 2 L.A.S. addressed to Maurras by Alfred BAUDRILLART, October 10, 1916, thanking for the sending of booklets, and explaining themselves on their divergences, and by the Queen AMÉLIE of Portugal, October 7, 1926 (with envelope): "in a small, as in the biggest questions, Charles Maurras saw from above, and admirably".
