MASSILLON Jean-Baptiste (1663-1742) célèbre prédicateur, il prononça l'oraison funèbre de Louis XIV.
L.A.S. " J.B. Eveq. de Clermont ", Clermont June 7, 1738, to abbé GAILLANDE, principal of the college of Plessis, in Paris; 1 page in-4, address with red wax seal with arms. The lord Lachenal must reside in his parish: a priest "can do without his license, but his parish, especially in the present situation, cannot do without a pastor" As for the named Velard, "it would be a great misfortune for the Church if ever a Bishop would promote him to the holy orders, which he should not expect as long as God will suffer me in the place where he has suffered me for such a long time". Provenance : Alfred BOVET collection (n° 707). Attached is a P.A.S., July 29, 1719, certifying that sister Gabrielle de La Roche du Ronset, of the Cistercian order, has fulfilled "with edification the duties of her state; that her conduct has always been accompanied by prudence and piety, and that she would be very propitious to govern the house she is building by her examples"; and a P.S. "J. B. Epus Claremontentis" in Latin, letters of canonry, December 30, 1726.
