GOUNOD Charles]. SÉGUR Cécile, marquise de (1830-1885).
29 L.A.S. "C. de Ségur" or "Cécile", to Charles GOUNOD, 1869-1871; 115 pages in-8 or in-12, with his crowned cipher and several with the letterhead Les Nouettes. Friendly correspondence. [Cécile Cuvelier married in 1851 the marquis Anatole de Ségur (1823-1902), son of the countess de Ségur, born Sophie Rostopchine, writer and historian, State Counsellor. She was a great friend of Gounod. The letters, are written from Paris or from the family estate of Les Nouettes]. Affectionate letters where Cécile de Ségur gives news of the family (her husband Anatole, ill, her children, her brother-in-law Mgr Gaston de Ségur); she awaits with impatience the coming of Gounod to Nouettes, in the company of her son Jean; she evokes the family celebrations (baptism or first communion), or the events of 1870 ("this year of horrible trials"). She also asks about the health of their dear friend and his movements: "How happy and unsurprised I am [...] that you have met hearts in London that know how to appreciate you"... Attached : - a l.a.s. from her husband Anatole de SÉGUR, 12 September 1869, they worry about Gounod's negotiations with Choudens, wondering if Gounod is "a diplomat, a businessman and a man of character"...; - a l.a.s. from their daughter Marie-Thérèse, called Mimi (future countess of Guerne, and singer) and one from their son Henri (1869); - and a l.s. (he was blind) from Monseigneur Gaston de SÉGUR to Gounod (24 February 1881) on the occasion of the baptism of his grandson Pierre Gounod.
