GOUNOD Charles.
10 autograph MANUSCRIPTS (5 signed) for Memoirs of an artist, [ca. 1875?]; 67 pages small in-4. Texts on music which will be integrated into his autobiography. [It was in 1873 that Gounod started to work on his memoirs, which he also conceived as a book on art. In August 1875, Georgina Weldon published in London, in French, a Autobiographie de Ch. Gounod, followed by articles on art, which she presented as the fruit of her collaboration with Gounod. In response to this unauthorized pamphlet, Gounod went back to writing his memoirs, which were published posthumously under the title Memoirs of an Artist in 1896. A new and excellent expanded edition of them has recently been given by Gérard Condé (Actes Sud/Palazzetto Bru Zane, 2018)]. On Routine in Art. These 6 autograph manuscripts (5 of which are signed "Ch. Gounod") were partly published in 1873-1874 in L'Art universel de Bruxelles and The Cosmopolitan, and collected in the Autobiography.
